On January 11 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published an update to its FAQ on TSCA Title VI – the Formaldehyde Standard for Composite Wood Products – to provide additional guidance on requirements for laminated products.
Effective March 22, 2024, producers of laminated products are considered hardwood plywood producers and are required to test and certify their products according to the provisions in TSCA Title VI. Companies are exempt from these requirements if they use either no-added formaldehyde (NAF) or phenolic (PF) resins.
Benchmark International, an AHFA Solution Partners member, notes that for imported products, the March 22, 2024, deadline applies to the date of import into the United States, not the date of manufacture of the laminated product, component part or finished product. Members with questions about the requirements for fabricators of laminated products are urged to review the EPA’s FAQ.
