NCFI Polyurethanes (a division of Barnhardt Manufacturing) introduced a new Bio-Lux line of cushioning products at the spring High Point Market. The soy-based product line provides a “greener” and more stable alternative to traditional polyurethane products. Chris Bradley, NCFI’s director of sales, says the company introduced Bio-Lux for three reasons. First, the company is committed to doing its part to make polyurethane products more environmentally friendly. Second, the company is responding to consumers who have an increasing desire to purchase “green” home products. And, third, the soy-based product offers more long-term economic stability than more conventional petroleum-based product. NCFI is a North Carolina-based manufacturer of polyurethane products. It is using Cargill’s BiOH product line for its soy-based polyurethane products.

The Uniwood business of Alcan Composites USA has expanded its line of Gator-Ply wood fiber veneer with Gator-Ply Enviro backer – an economic alternative to conventional wood veneers and high-pressure laminates that is manufactured with no added formaldehyde. Gator-Ply is the original man-made wood fiber veneer introduced by Uniwood more than 30 years ago. It is used as a backing material in three-ply and five-ply panel construction for the office and residential furniture markets. “We are highly conscious of the benefits of being ‘green’ and continually searching for materials that are addressing the evolving environmental needs of our customers,” says Lynette Tullos, Uniwood sales manager. “This product is manufactured with an alternative resin system that does not require the addition of formaldehyde. Gator-Ply Envior backer is a chemically low-emitting wood fiber veneer product that is designed to meet industry green initiatives for improved indoor air quality.”
Lectra, a CAD/CAM equipment and related services provider, presented its new generation of solutions developed specifically for the furniture industry at “Lectra World 2007” March 8-9 in Bordeaux, France. The event included 140 guests from 18 countries. Product introductions included:
- a new version of DesignConcept Furniture, Lectra’s 3D virtual prototyping and product development solution. DesignConcept Furniture enables 3D upholstered product design directly from designers’ sketches. With high performance display tools, the program allows marketing managers to make stylistic decisions before the physical prototype is built, thus shortening time to market.
- an updated MFC Furniture, an automated leather cutting solution with enhanced nesting capabilities. This newest MFC Furniture version enables the furniture industry to optimize small and medium production while reducing lead time, increasing quality, reducing costs and ensuring flexibility. The scanning interface enables the operator to identify and precisely control the scan results before the hide is nested. MFC Furniture can cut almost any pattern and any type of leather.
- new Power service solutions providing customers with tailored expertise to help them improve the overall performance of their production systems. This new offering includes real-time monitoring of customers’ systems by Lectra’s experts, a program of preventive maintenance, and upgrading of pilot software.
