Nester Software, a leading provider of production optimization solutions for the upholstery furniture industry, announces that Flexsteel Industries has selected the NESTERwood Optimizer software for upholstery frame production, starting in Flexsteel’s Dublin, Ga., facility. NESTERwood Rolling Nest automatically optimizes the placement of pieces from one or more orders on multiple sheets of plywood, resulting in higher material yields. Based on Flexsteel’s evaluation and testing, material yield improvements of 8-12 percent are expected once the NESTERwood solution is fully implemented. In addition to the improvement in material utilization, NESTERwood will help Flexsteel get closer to its goal of Just-In-Time manufacturing. By cutting to exact order demand, NESTERwood Optimizer eliminates the need to cut excess parts and reduces the inventory and operational costs associated with the practice. www.nestersoftware.com

Globe Express Services, a third party logistics and application service provider specializing in Far East trade, continued its global expansion over the summer with the opening of several corporate offices. These included the company’s eighth office in China, its first in Turkey and South America, and a new operations center in Vietnam. The new China location is on the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula in Dalian. Dalian serves as the main international logistics hub and financial center for northeast China. The Instanbul, Turkey, office was a “natural” fit for the company, according to president Tony Bikhazi, because so many of Turkey’s top export commodities – textiles, tiles, footwear and furniture among them – belong to industries in which Globe Express has an established international base. The new South America office is in Sao Paulo, Brazil – the nation’s main business hub. It is located in one of the largest and most diversified industrial parks in Latin America and the Caribbean. Finally, the company’s Ho Chi Minh City office moved to a new facility in August and expanded its area sales presence with the addition of a local operations team.
Globe Express Services announces the appointment of Sean Dunleavy, a 15-year transportation industry veteran, to the position of account executive for the mid-Atlantic region, reinforcing the company’s commitment to its customer base in Virginia, Maryland and Eastern North Carolina. Dunleavy also will be expanding the company’s Mid-Atlantic coverage into New Jersey. www.globeexpress.com
