Economic Conference Offers Outlook for the Coming Year

AFMA will hold its annual Economic Outlook Conference Thursday, December 2, at the Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte, N.C.

The conference features both industry and economic outlooks from leading consultants, as well as presentation of the Forecaster of the Year Award.

Conference registration will open at 9:30 a.m., with the business program scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Forecaster of the Year Award will go to the member whose 2004 economic forecast, submitted at last year’s conference – proved to be the most precise. At the end of the conference, attendees will be asked to formulate their own predictions for the coming year.

More information is available by calling 336/884-5000, ext. 110.

Suppliers Invited to Annual Meeting

Attention Supplier Division members: Don’t miss the top networking opportunity of the year! AFMA’s Annual Meeting is slated for November 4-7 at The Cloister in Sea Island, Ga. Top executives from all Supplier Division companies are invited to attend.

Executives from AFMA’s manufacturer and supplier member companies will convene at the world-class resort to hear from “consumer centric” companies and organizations that have learned to see their brands or products through the customer’s eyes. Among the presenters is Dale Pond, executive vice president, merchandising and marketing for Lowe’s Companies. Lowe’s ability to differentiate from the competition has enabled the retailer to grow to more than 1,000 stores nationwide and produce $31 billion in revenue in 2003. Also planned for the agenda are representatives from Cotton Inc. and The Plastics Council – both of which have created “consumer centric” marketing campaigns to promote their respective industries.

Attendees should plan to arrive in time for a 6:30 p.m. opening reception and Oyster Roast at Rainbow Island on November 4. The business sessions will convene at 8 a.m. November 5 and 6 and conclude each day around noon. The free afternoons will allow golfers to play at Seaside Golf Course on November 5 and Plantation Golf Course on November 6, both championship courses. Meanwhile, sightseers will enjoy group tours of nearby Jekyll Island and St. Simon’s Island.

At The Cloister, an outdoor pool overlooks five miles of private beach, and a world-class spa offers wellness and beauty treatments.

A gala reception and dinner dance will conclude the meeting Saturday evening, November 6. The event will be highlighted by presentation of AFMA’s Distinguished Service Award. Departures should be scheduled for November 7.
