Gerber Technology introduces Pivex™ cutting technology, designed to increase cutting speed for intricate shapes while improving cut quality. The reciprocating knife technology features the ability to change direction at high rates of speed. The first GERBERcutter to integrate Pivex™ cutting technology will be the Taurus system, a full-hide leather cutter.

Pivex™ technology can cut all perimeter geometry in a single pass of the high-speed reciprocating knife. Time spent navigating corners or changes in direction is minimized, providing dramatic time savings over conventional knife cutting devices. The knife is never lifted from the material while cutting through or around corners. In the Taurus X series, the new Pivex™ cutting technology minimizes or eliminates over cuts and heel cuts on most parts. The high-speed reciprocating action of the Pivex™ knife, in conjunction with the high friction table surface, which minimizes hide movement, ensures precisely cut parts and enables users to cut custom notch shapes. The Pivex™ technology will also be available as an upgrade for installed Taurus systems. Gerber has also introduced two new high-performance, wide-format inkjet plotters, the Infinity 45 and Infinity 85. Both offer increased speed and remote monitoring capability, and the Infinity 85 has eight times the capacity of standard cartridges, saving customers an estimated 15 percent on ink costs and decreasing down time for ink cartridge replacement. Both are capatible with all Gerber and most other CAD systems. Gerber Technology is a business unit of the $517 million corporation, Gerber Scientific Inc., based in South Windsor, Conn. The company develops and manufactures integrated software and hardware automation systems for manufacturers and retailers in the sewn products and flexible materials industries.

Hafele America introduces the new Tab-A honeycomb board connector. TAB-A allows a connection for honeycomb panels without framing materials. Use of TAB-A eliminates the gluing of material joints. It works with 32 mm and 40 mm thick honeycomb panels. The main constituent is the galvanized Varianta HC screw, which fits drill hole diameters of 3mm and 5mm. The screw’s fine thread and flat thread flanks provide a high pull-out resistance and retaining force for honeycomb panels without framing materials. The connector is not visible from the outside, offering a clean, smooth look.
Stanley Benefit Services announces the release of its web-based human resources portal, OnePointHR™. OnePointHR™ integrates with a company’s current intranet and includes: a company news page for current events; an interactive searchable document library; benefit snapshots that provide a “quick view” of each employee’s current benefits on one web page; benefit calculators allowing employees to project future 401(k) savings balances, estimate pension plan payments or calculate tax savings; and interactive benefit overviews.
Crypton Super Fabrics rolled out its new In & Out outdoor fabric at the Hospitality Show in Las Vegas in April. After two years in research and development, the new fabric combines Crypton’s stain, liquid, bacteria and odor resistance with colorfast performance, making it suitable for outdoor use. Targeted for the hospitality market, the introduction included 15 patterns, each in six to eight color ways.
Crypton also made news at Neocon in June with the introduction of a new fabric collection designed by Michael Graves, as well as the introduction of “Crypton Green.” Distributed exclusively through CF Stinson, the Michael Graves collection consists of nine jacquard patterns available in 95 color ways. Crypton Green is described as the first “environmentally intelligent” high performance textile, because it exceeds industry standards for indoor air quality and is certified by both the Scientific Certification System and MBDC. As part of the certification process, Crypton made chemical and raw material improvements to reduce or eliminate the presence of formaldehyde and flouropolymers.
Finally, Crypton also announces that its Disinfectant & Deodorizer has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to disinfect Crypton Super Fabric. The disinfectant kills most germs, mold and mildew on contact, providing a new level of clean for hotels, hospitals, restaurants, day care centers, health clubs and other public facilities.
