Cargo Transporters, headquartered in Claremont, N.C., was presented a Platinum Safety Award by Great West Casualty Company as part of the 2005 National Fleet Safety Awards Program. Cargo operates over 400 trucks in the United States and Canada. “Our trucks traveled over 60 million miles last year. These drivers worked very hard to operate in the safest and most efficient manner,” said Cargo CEO John Pope. Great West Casualty is a provider of property and casualty insurance for the motor carrier industry. Its Fleet Safety Award Program recognizes carriers for achieving low preventable accident frequency per million miles of operation.
Cargo also announces it has joined the AMBER Alert Highway Network, an initiative to help recover abducted children. Using satellite communications, Cargo trucks all across the country will receive alerts about child abductions, suspected abductors and/or suspected vehicles. For drivers to receive these alerts through on-board communications solutions, the carrier must be enrolled in the AMBER Alert Highway Network, a partnership of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and QUALCOMM Inc., a satellite communications system provider.
