March Flammability Workshop Offers
Critical Insight for Producers and Suppliers

With the development of new federal flammability standards for upholstered furniture, mattresses and bed clothing underway in Washington, suppliers of materials to these industries are urged to attend AFHA’s annual Flammability Workshop for the most up-to-date information on how these regulations will impact their operations.

AHFA staff members in High Point and Washington are at the forefront of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission discussions, providing both technical insight and straightforward recommendations for a sensible regulatory approach. To bring members essential updates on the most recent activities, AHFA has assembled a panel of leading authorities for the March 1 workshop at the Sheraton Four Seasons in Greensboro, N.C.

CPSC authorities invited to address the industry include:

  • Dale Ray, CPSC project manager of upholstered furniture flammability.
  • Margaret Neilly, CPSC project manager of mattresses and bed clothing.
  • John G. Mullan, CPSC’s general counsel.

In addition to these CPSC officials, attendees will hear from Kathleen Vokes, from the Environmental Protection Agency’s office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics, and Patrice Vandendaele, president and CEO of Devan Chemicals, a Belgian specialty chemicals company that has been the leader in flame-retardant technology for the European market.

A 6:00 p.m. opening reception is planned for February 28, during which attendees will have the opportunity to view tabletop exhibits featuring various products and materials.

Workshop registration is $225 for AHFA members, $300 for non-members. The fee includes the Feb. 28 reception and lunch on March 1. For more information or to register, call 336/884-5000, ext. 114.
