AHFA’s Holiday Gift Guide
November 20, 2017 – HIGH POINT, N.C. – Electronics? Yawn. Clothes? Not again. Appliances? Humbug.
If you’re looking for gift ideas to add “wow!” to your 2017 holiday shopping, the American Home Furnishings Alliance is at your service.
“There’s nothing more thrilling than executing the perfect surprise at the holidays – a gift that impresses and elicits a squeal of delight or a jaw-dropping ‘Wow!’” notes Jackie Hirschhaut, AHFA’s vice president of public relations. “Here’s how to take an average idea and make it amazing.”
For the Spirits-Lover. The alcoholic beverage industry is undergoing change, led by the adventurous and non-traditional tastes of the millennials. “Craft” beer is now being eclipsed by a bourbon boom, and it all points to one of the hottest gift categories for 2017: bar tools and accoutrements. Decanters, bar tools and bar glasses top many gift guides, but why not kick that up a hefty notch and add a handsome bar cart or bar cabinet?
For the Pet Lover. Sixty-eight percent of U.S. households, or 85 million families, own a pet, according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association. No surprise there. But it may surprise you to learn half of dog owners and 39 percent of cat owners will buy their pet a gift for the year-end holidays. No question about it: Americans are passionate about their pets. Furniture manufacturers have picked up on the pet pampering trend, with furniture designed for pets; furniture for pets that matches people furniture; and upholstered furniture for people in prints that celebrate pets. Take your pick!
For the Craft Lover. Many categories of crafting supplies have experienced double digit sales increases in the past year, according to an April report from The NPD Group. While considered a badge of self-expression to many millennials, crafting is also gaining appeal among older adults as a brain-boosting activity with benefits similar to word or number games. If you want to impress the crafter on your holiday list, don’t just stock up on supplies. Crafting furniture full of storage will both inspire and impress!
For the Game Lover. The more high-tech our everyday lives become, the more Americans seem to find low-tech ways to unwind. Do you have a board game bar in your home town yet? If not, bring the social experience home around a new game table this holiday season. From compact chess boards that conveniently double as side tables to full-blown game table and chair sets, don’t just buy the game; set the stage for dozens of game nights with family or friends.
For the Vintage Buff. While vinyl records are the new old collectible, record cabinets to hold them are still tough to find. Imagine the thrill your vinyl enthusiast will feel when you gift an old-fashioned record cabinet to hold his or her prized assortment! Hooker Furniture was ahead of the pack on this one, introducing the Studio 7H Record Player Console several seasons ago. The hinged top opens, ready for a new-fashioned turntable. Jacketed vinyl albums stack upright – just like the good ‘ole days – in vertically slatted storage compartments.
