AHFA’s Solution Partners division launched www.MadeInCatawba.com in October 2015 to help generate workers for hundreds of available manufacturing positions in the Catawba County area of North Carolina. The shortage of skilled workers in the upholstered furniture industry is acute, with hundreds of additional workers retiring every year. In addition to helping companies find viable job candidates, the website is designed to promote home furnishings manufacturing as a reliable and rewarding career choice for high school students and graduates, returning military and those who are currently employed but looking for more stable work with an opportunity for benefits and salary growth. The online toolbox for HR directors includes website posters, sample response forms for job applicants, links to sample career pages for corporate websites and more.

AHFA’s Human Resources Close–Up is prepared by James W. Wimberly Jr. of Wimberly & Lawson, Atlanta, AHFA’s special counsel for human resources issues. The newsletter is emailed to members monthly. Salary & Benefits Surveys
AHFA produces a variety of salary surveys designed to assist Human Resources professionals at member compaies. Members are strongly urged to participate in the surveys, so that their companies can take advantage of the final reports. Currently, the only survey available is the 2005 Sales Rep Compensation Survey.

AHFA’s Solution Partners (formerly the Suppliers Division) offers college scholarships for children of regular, full-time employees of AHFA member companies. Twelve $2,500 scholarships are awarded each year. All students age 21 or younger who are enrolled in or planning to enroll in a four-year college or university, a junior or community college, or a vocational or technical school are eligible to apply. The one-year scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit of the student. A poster encouraging employees to inquire about the AHFA scholarship program is available for plant and office bulletin boards.
