PUBLIC RELATIONS

Program Overview
AHFA's broad-based public relations program is designed to heighten consumers' awareness of home furnishings and deliver informed, enthusiastic buyers to the doors of member companies' retail customers. The program's ultimate goal is to increase the industry's share of the consumer's disposable income.

Key components of the program include:

  • A year-round media desk that assists writers and editors with information and photography for feature and business stories on home furnishings products and trends.
  • Distribution of monthly press materials on products and trends to the top 1,200 newspapers and more than 200 magazines nationwide. These materials feature products exclusively from AHFA member companies.
  • Market publicity, including recruitment of key journalists to attend the High Point market; daily trend reports during the market; and operation of the official High Point Media Center.
  • A website for the media, www.ahfanews.com, that posts all press releases on products and trends, plus offers downloadable photography and graphics. On-line press registration for the High Point market is also offered from the site.
  • An award-winning website for consumers, www.findyourfurniture.com, designed to promote AHFA members' products and supply shopping tips that help consumers make informed home furnishings purchases.
  • An annual awards program for Honoring Outstanding Media Efforts in covering home furnishings products and trends. This program – the first of its kind – recognizes one magazine, one newspaper and one trade publication writer each year and showcases the nation's best home writers and reporters.

In addition, the public relations program works to position the home furnishings industry as consumer friendly and socially conscious. It does this through the timely distribution of press releases concerning AHFA programs and activities. AHFA is promoted as the leading source of information on products and trends, as well as a leader in proactive public affairs.

Events
A public relations workshop precedes the annual marketing conference in August, giving public relations professionals or those with PR responsibilities an opportunity to address issues such as market publicity, crisis communications and investor relations.

High Point Media Center
AHFA operates a Media Center during the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point on behalf of all exhibitors at the market. Its primary purpose is to disseminate new product and trend information to the writers and editors attending the market.
