The American Home Furnishings Alliance is the voice of the residential furniture industry, representing companies large and small, public and private, domestic and import. Our members manage a sophisticated global supply chain that includes factories in 31 states and three foreign countries, providing more than $11 billion in wholesale shipments of home furnishings products every year for U.S. households.
The American Home Furnishings Alliance is committed to promoting the growth, citizenship and global leadership of home furnishings manufacturers, importers and suppliers in the United States.
AHFA member companies produce both indoor and outdoor home furnishings, along with a variety of home accents. Although some of our member companies also produce products for business, commercial and institutional settings, their primary focus is on the residential market.
AHFA also has a division of over 150 suppliers to the global home furnishings industry. These “Solution Partners” offer manufacturing equipment, machinery and component parts, as well as consulting, IT, legal, compliance, transportation and logistics services.
AHFA’s primary areas of focus include:
Governmental & Regulatory Affairs
AHFA articulates industry positions to various U.S. governmental and regulatory agencies, balancing the needs of the American consumer, the workplace and the environment with those of the home furnishings industry. The Alliance also facilitates member company compliance by sharing research, best practices and fact sheets on the industry’s most pressing regulatory issues.
AHFA initiates research and provides industry leadership in the development of meaningful and effective construction and safety standards for home furnishings products. AHFA is the industry’s representative with ASTM International and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The Alliance also leads consumer education programs focused on furniture safety issues, including furniture tip-over and home fire safety.
AHFA delivers training and development opportunities that improve the overall technical knowledge and skill level of industry employees. It provides education, tools and resources to facilitate compliance with applicable U.S. laws, regulations and standards. It develops relevant programs and shares best practices for integrating sustainable business practices into manufacturing operations, sourcing strategies and product development.
AHFA develops and nurtures productive relationships with magazine, newspaper, broadcast and digital journalists and content providers by disseminating meaningful and timely information on home furnishings products and trends. A PR program was established in 1999 and continues to actively promote a unified industry marketing message. The program includes a media desk, press releases on new products and trends, a website for consumers (www.findyourfurniture.com) and extensive efforts to promote coverage of the High Point and Las Vegas furniture markets, as well as the International Casual Furniture and Accessories Market in Chicago.
